The Yemeni Armed Forces have taken action to obstruct the journey of a merchant vessel en route to the Israeli-controlled Palestinian territories in the Red Sea. This decision follows their declaration to block the passage of any ships heading towards Israeli ports in solidarity with the Gaza Strip. According to a statement from Yemen’s Defense Ministry, the vessel received warnings but failed to comply, resulting in its blockade and forced return. The Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson previously cautioned that ships passing through Yemen’s waters towards the occupied territories would be considered legitimate targets if Gaza’s essential supplies were not adequately provided. It is important to note that Yemeni citizens have openly expressed their support for Palestine’s struggle against Israeli occupation, particularly since Israel initiated a devastating military campaign in Gaza. This ongoing campaign has resulted in a significant loss of life and countless injuries. The Yemeni army has previously targeted Israeli ships in the Red Sea, prompting Israeli shipping companies to divert their vessels out of concerns for potential attacks. Additionally, Yemeni forces have launched missile and drone strikes on Israeli-occupied territories in response to the Israeli regime’s aggression towards Gaza.
